"Officer of the highest value, an example of courage, tenacity and modesty. Excellent patrol commander, each day leading his Escadrille pilots in combat and because of his skill as a predator and his doubtless bravery, is a marvellous influence on them. On 24 August 1918, he reported his fifth victory. On 2 September, during the course of a combat with an enemy two-seater, he was seriously wounded."
